DISCOVERING THE LANDES BY BIKE

archan velo

Whether you are a fan of two wheels or simply want to go for a walk in peace, without having to take your car, the Landes will seduce you. It must be said that the Landes department has 1,700 kilometers of cycle routes spread over 24 circuits and more than 500 kilometers of cycle paths or greenways. Various guides, published by the Landes departmental tourism committee, present all of these cycle paths, some of which are accessible in just a few minutes from the Landes Azur campsite.

You will therefore have the opportunity to discover the magnificent Landes department by pedaling for several kilometers and enjoying an outing as a couple, with family or friends. The 52.5 km greenway of Marsan and Armagnac, for example, will make you contemplate the local heritage of Gabarret in Mont-de-Marsan. From Dax to Saint-Sever, you will enjoy a bucolic walk of 54 km on the Chalosse greenway. The Landes de Roquefort greenway, for its part, offers a 20 km track, from Roquefort to the Gironde limit of Bourriot-Bergonce. The Vélodyssée (EuroVelo 1), the longest organized cycle route in France, crosses the Landes coast from Biscarrosse to Tarnos over more than 160 km. The Scandibérique (EuroVelo 3) runs along the territory for 170 km. You can take a ride there, whether to try the slopes or just to perceive them. Shorter tours using low traffic roads are also available. Discover the Landes territory, its heritage, its gastronomy and its tradition with your bike by covering all the itineraries and circuits offered. Discover the landscape at your own pace thanks to the 1,700 km of itineraries spread over 24 cycle tourism circuits and a 39 km themed circuit in the Pays Morcenais.

Several services revolving around cycling will be suggested to you on site, such as bike rental by establishments with the Accueil vélo label guaranteeing a quality welcome. You will have the chance to plan your 2-wheeled expedition in complete peace of mind with the help of the suggested guides and randoguides. You will find the different loops to do depending on the level of difficulty that suits you, your physical condition and your availability. Don't wait any longer to come and discover the cycle paths of the Landes...

After your days full of activities, you will find the accommodation that suits you at the 4-star Landes Azur campsite to rest.

VISIT THE LANDES BY BIKE: 6 STEPS

Do you want to explore the Landes in an original way? During your holidays with family or friends at the Landes Bleues campsite, get on your bike to conquer the cycle paths of the department to admire exceptional natural landscapes. A way to combine the joys of cycling with the well-being provided by nature. Pedaling nose to wind along a hundred kilometers of beaches and passing through the largest European pine forest, here are 6 essential steps to visit the Landes by bike.

Crossing the Bassin d'Arcachon
The Bassin d'Arcachon is a territory of remarkable diversity. Between innumerable walks, swimming sessions and exploration of the localities of the coast, crisscross the basin of the city of Lège-Cap-Ferret to Arcachon between pines and sea.

From Biscarrosse to Mimizan Plage
The second stage of your bicycle journey covers about fifty kilometres. Leaving from Biscarrosse, stop near the Parentis-en-Born lake, a pleasant spot for a picnic. Then head back towards Mimizan Plage. You can make a stopover on the way to the Aureilhan pond: this is an opportunity to take a beautiful boat trip on the water. Then, get on your bike again to join the 4 km long Dunes cycle path.

From Mimizan Plage to Vielle-Saint-Girons
The third stage of around 40 km between Mimizan Plage and Vielle-Saint-Girons is an opportunity to stop to visit the only existing lighthouse in the Landes: the Contis lighthouse. Climb nearly 190 steps to access a breathtaking panorama at the top of the lighthouse between views of the ocean, coastline and forest stretching to the horizon. Then take a break at the beach for a swim or a horseback ride before heading to the Vielle-Saint-Girons seaside resort.

Walk to Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains
As you continue your bike ride in the heart of the Landes, don't miss the Courant d'Huchet nature reserve at the Léon pond: an incredible area to discover by canoe. You can then stop at Moliets to enjoy Landes dishes in one of its restaurants and learn golf. The cycle route or Vélodyssée plunges into the forest. Continue your bike ride to Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains via Messanges.

Stopover in Capbreton
Nearly 22 km await you from Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains to Capbreton. You can take a pleasant walk or bike ride around Lac Marin in Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains. Find the cycle path by progressing towards Hossegor, a seaside resort renowned for the practice of surfing. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn about this emblematic sport of the Landes with a specialized instructor. You will also find in Hossegor many shops bringing together well-known brands from the world of surfing, ideal for indulging in a shopping trip. You will also find a wide variety of delicious restaurants to delight everyone. Then get back on your bike in the direction of Capbreton, located not far from there.

The final stage: Bayonne
Before resuming your bicycle for about 30 km to set sail for Bayonne, you can explore the town of Capbreton in a fun way on a Segway, a small two-wheeled electric vehicle on which you stand. Go through Labenne and its huge Robinson Park, perfect for practicing tree climbing. Then find the cycle path to continue your cycling route towards Bayonne, capital of the Basque Country. You will note that the path between the town of Boucau and Bayonne is on the road. Once you arrive, you will be spoiled for choice to satisfy your cultural desires, entertainment or even your taste buds!
