The Landes Océanes campsite is located not far from the Bassin d'Arcachon, making it easy for holidaymakers staying in the Landes to spend a day in the four-season city and enjoy the oyster-farming villages surrounding the basin.

Of Arcachon bay

Bounded by the towns of La Teste-de-Buch to the south, Lège-Cap-Ferret to the west and the Leyre delta to the east, the Bassin d'Arcachon is a veritable inland sea, open to the ocean. Atlantic, through the passes of the Arcachon basin, representing the only breach in the long 250 kilometer dune cord of the Côte d'Argent.

Triangular in shape, it is surrounded by more than 80 kilometers of flat coastline or wooded dunes.

Fishing and boating have always been practiced there. For more than 2000 years, tapping was practiced intensively but is abandoned nowadays.

In the center of the basin, discover the "bird island" and its "tchanquées" cabins, cabins on stilts, typical of the Arcachon basin. Since the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the economy of the basin has turned towards oyster farming and tourism.

In addition to the natural beauty of the site, do not miss the visit of Cap-Ferret, the Dune du Pilat and the Banc d'Arguin, classified as a nature reserve.

Of the Dune du Pyla

The Pyla dune: the highest dune in Europe at 110 meters above sea level and symbol of the Arcachon basin, discover the Pyla dune, located in Teste-de-Buch, in Gironde.
This geological curiosity, 500 meters wide from east to west, and 2.7 kilometers long from north to south, is made up of approximately 60 million cubic meters of sand.
Located in the heart of the Landes de Gascogne, its altitude varies constantly, evolving between 100 and 117 meters above sea level. In perpetual motion, the Pyla (or Pilat) dune advances implacably towards the interior of the territory, and gradually covers the houses and infrastructures present on its way, while sending in the waves, the houses built on the sea side.

In order to preserve the site, which is frequented by many tourists throughout the year, the dune has been the subject of several rehabilitation and visit planning measures, as part of a "large site national ".

For the sports enthusiasts, climb the dune to reach its summit and discover an exceptional panorama of the surroundings, and descend the dune with great strides to descend it quickly towards the forest. The less athletic will appreciate using the stairs, whether to go up or down.

At the top, air and wind recreation are in the spotlight and many paragliders and pilots of radio-controlled scale models constantly survey this site.
