The history of the Marquèze ecomuseum, a journey through time
The Marquèze ecomuseum is located near Sabres, 30 minutes from your Landes Bleues campsite.
You can discover life in the Landes de Gascogne in 1890.
Take advantage of this journey through time to discover the village and its surroundings!
To get to the ecomuseum from Sabres, opt for the train, the wagons are classified as Historic Monuments.
This village has been entirely reconstituted thanks to the transfer of buildings. The houses and other buildings have been rebuilt on the space dedicated to the ecomuseum. A collection of furniture allows you to evolve while being surrounded by objects that belonged to people of that time. These places have a soul and are steeped in history.
You will be able to admire their places of life and work, identical to those in which the shepherd-farmers evolved.
Visit and activities
At the Ecomuseum of Marquèze
After arriving in this charming little village, you will then have the opportunity to discover several places. In particular, you can visit:
- the miner's house;
- the house of brassiers;
- the educational vegetable garden;
and many more places.
These different thematic areas allow you to discover life at that time.
Throughout the day, you will also be able to discover demonstrations of know-how. Learn more about the trades of yesteryear:
- Start your day with the arrival of the shepherd and his flock (the barnyard at 10:30 a.m.).
- Then, visit the simple garden and learn more about medicinal plants.
- Do you want to know everything about the history of the Landes? Be present at the gemmer's hut at the end of the morning. You will be able to discover this original profession there.
- At the end of the morning, opt for the discovery of the mill.
- And at lunchtime, to whet your appetite, visit the miner's house to explore the cuisine of yesteryear.
During the afternoon, if you like yarn work, weaving:
See you at the Borde de l'airial! Several times are offered, the first session “around the wire” begins at 2:15 p.m., the last at 5:30 p.m.;
"Needlework" at the minor's house from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Do you like the good smell of soap?
Watch an artisan make soap in Bugadèr from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Rates and timetables
The Marquèze eco-museum is an exciting place to visit. The doors are open to visitors from June 10 to November 1.
The opening hours and train journeys (from Sabers or on the way back from the ecomuseum) vary according to the period, prepare your visit with the detailed timetables.
Our advice: plan at least half a day to visit as many places as possible.
Eating at the ecomuseum: a gourmet idea!
Depending on the season, you can also taste good Landes dishes at the “Table de Marquèze”. The restaurant of the ecomuseum offers you delicious recipes with seasonal products.
The Estanquet refreshment bar allows you to enjoy a simple snack. A cold plate based on typical Landes products is offered. It is also the ideal place to refresh yourself and test old games.
The bread oven which is one of the places to visit also offers its specialties. Between the breads, brioches and other delicacies, you won't know what to choose... Don't miss a beat, taste as many things as possible!
A picnic area is available for visitors. You can therefore bring your packed lunch and enjoy it directly on site.
