Presentation of the Ornithological Reserve of Teich

The site opened its doors in 1972 to welcome birds from the shores of the Bassin d'Arcachon. The municipality of Teich obtains the necessary land and sets up various facilities: the Parc du Teich thus sees the light of day before becoming a reserve 40 years later. Covered over 75% of its area, this ornithological reserve offers splendid lagoons dotted with glasswort, as well as brackish and freshwater marshes that are home to a rich flora and fauna. Artificial afforestation but also of spontaneous origin extend naturally to the south of this vast space, between deciduous oaks and ash willows. The Ornithological Reserve of Teich shelters a great biodiversity with wild birds that the various equipments allow to observe closely. In parallel with this ecotourism, the reserve actively contributes to the protection of mammals and different species of birds, especially those that are rare or in danger of extinction.

What activities to do there?

The Ornithological Reserve of Teich allows you to discover birds through activities organized by the Maison de la Nature du Bassin d'Arcachon. Guided tours of 2.5 or 3 hours in the morning during school holidays and in the evening in July-August offer privileged encounters with birds. Internships are also offered to deepen your ornithological knowledge. The site can also be explored freely on foot on a 6 km loop (or 2.5 km route for people with walking difficulties or accompanied by very young children). The trail allows you to appreciate all the different landscapes. Allow 3 or 4 hours for your visit. About twenty closed observatories line the path every 300 meters to be able to admire the birds in strategic places while allowing shelter from the rain or the sun. Four belvederes offer a panorama of the landscapes of the reserve and its surroundings. They also allow you to watch birds in flight. You can also indulge in animal photography thanks to the observation huts of the reserve adapted to this activity.
