  1. Home

The Landes department is appreciated for its beautiful contrasting landscapes (forest, ocean, lakes, rivers, mountains), its heritage and its picturesque villages. However, the weather can be capricious on certain days, even in summer. Discover the activities to do in the 40 in rainy weather in order to enjoy every moment of your camping stay in the Landes.

Make the markets
Throughout the year, the markets enliven the Landes villages whatever the weather conditions. Take the time to stroll through the aisles, chat with the producers and buy the region's flagship products such as foie gras or duck confit. Do not miss the Capbreton fish market which is held every morning, and the Biscarrosse market on Fridays and Sundays.

Visit the Arjuzanx nature reserve
The former mining site of Arjuzanx is now a national reserve and an ornithological paradise which is home to more than 2,500 common cranes. If you see big black clouds in the distance, enter the reception house to discover the models, photos and videos that retrace the history of the site. Find out more about the Arjuzanx nature reserve.

Put on your raincoat and learn land yachting on one of the immense fine sandy beaches.

Take a spa treatment in Dax
Go through the doors of a spa in Dax and treat yourself to a day of 100% well-being and relaxation in the famous spa resort. Find out more about the Dax spa resort.

Buy Armagnac
Weather permitting, take a stroll around the cellars in the Landes d'Armagnac and bring home a bottle of this world-famous wine eau-de-vie.

Taste the garbure and pastis landais
Gourmets will take advantage of the showers to sit down in a good restaurant and savor a garbure landaise, the soup of the region. For a gourmet and sweet break, turn to pastis landais, a delicious brioche that you will find in pastries.

Visit the museums of Mont-de-Marsan
The Landes prefecture is home to several interesting museums such as the Despiau-Wlérick museum (sculpture), the Dubalen museum and the museum of the 34th infantry regiment. Remember to include them in your program of visits to Landes, especially in rainy weather.

Get lost in the Marsan media library
The Marsan media library (Mont-de-Marsan) is a cultural space that has received several awards. It caters to both adults and children, and you can spend hours here.

Go back in time to prehistory at the Maison de la Dame
The Maison de la Dame de Brassempouy is a very interesting museum that delights children and history buffs. You will see many prehistoric objects there and learn how to carve flints to make fire.

Attend a concert in Luxey
The small village of Luxey organizes a music and street arts festival every August called Musicalarue. If your stay in the Landes does not coincide with the festival, soak up the festive atmosphere of Luxey by attending a concert in its performance hall Les Cigales.

See a rugby match
You cannot leave the Landes without having seen a match of rugby, the king sport of south-west France. Unfortunately, no team from 40 is currently in the Top 14. However, you can encourage Mont-de-Marsan, who is currently playing in Pro D2, or Aviron Bayonnais (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).
